Recall your most vivid memory. Think about the colors, the smells, the people. Imagine the personalities in the room, the emotions, the relationships.
Find a picture in your house that adequately relates all of those things to the person looking at it.
Aggravating, isn't it? Fewer and fewer people have photographs that really capture the moments that are permanently burned into our memories. Instead, the good majority of us are stuck with frozen smiles, matching outfits and ridiculous facial expressions. Its almost comical. I cant avoid pointing to the obvious: Most of our moments together are unscripted, unedited. So why are the pictures always poised and perfect?
A picture is meant to tell a story about a family, a friendship or a moment. In between all of those poised situations and matching outfits, people are living real life, experiencing real emotions and sharing real love. If the only available pictures are obviously scripted, it becomes too easy to dismiss the fact that day-to-day life is layered with all of these things.
As a photographer, I am interested in fresh, fun and informal sessions that really capture you. All of my shoots are on-location so feel free to share some of your favorite places or I can share a few of mine. To me, a photo is never inanimate. So in the end, I want to hand over images that make you remember the smells, the colors, the personalities and the emotions.
